Governor General of Canada Appoints Dashan to the Order of Canada

NEWS RELEASE: Ottawa, February 20, 2007 — Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, today appointed Mark H. Rowswell, AKA "Dashan", to the Order of Canada.This appointment has been in effect since October 5, 2006. An inception ceremony will be held at a later date.

The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement and service in various fields of human endeavour. It is Canada's highest honour for lifetime achievement. Appointments are made on the recommendation of an advisory council, chaired by the Chief Justice of Canada.

Canadian Olympic Committee Congratulates Mark Rowswell on his Appointment to The Order Of Canada

TORONTO, February 21, 2007 —The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) congratulates Mark Rowswell, Canadian Team Attaché for the 2008 Olympic Games, on being one of 55 members appointed to the Order of Canada yesterday by Governor General Michaelle Jean.

"Mark Rowswell's appointment to the Order of Canada is well-deserved as he has done a tremendous amount to foster cultural understanding between Canada and China," said Chris Rudge, COC Chief Executive Officer. "Since being named Canada's Team Attaché in November 2006, Mark has been instrumental in helping our organization develop important relationships with members of Beijing's business community while also providing a better understanding of China's culture and customs to Canada's athletes, coaches and team leaders. He is a highly valued member of our 2008 Olympic Team and is playing a key role in helping the COC prepare for success in Beijing."
